...number of members of the class and by several of the class officers. I should like to have it known that the concensus of opinion is that action on this matter should be deferred until after the close of the war, at which time it will be eminently proper for the University or the alumni, and perhaps for the individual classes, to create a permanent memorial to the Harvard men who have met their death fighting for whichever cause they believed to be the right one in this great struggle. Memorial Hall stands today at Harvard in tribute to all those connected with the University who served in the American Civil War. Tablets and memorial windows especially perpetuate the names of those who lost their lives in service. A similar scheme, it seems proper, should be worked out for the commemoration of those who felt the call equally strong to go forth to battle for and to assist in the cause which had their devotion in the present war. "Yale will do well to accept the outcome of the contest with proper humility and reserve her inward gratulations for indulgence at some future date," said Lawrence Perry, sporting editor of the New York Evening Post. In further comment on the game this same critic points...

Would it not be fitting to hold a service in commemoration of these men of the University, who laid all that they had upon the altar of honor? And would it not be both proper and just to give praise at the same time to the Harvard men who have served similarly, and who, though they are yet spared to this life, have striven and are striving for the same ideals of duty and courage...
