...harming their children. He says today that consumers no longer know what they eat. "In 1949 ninety per cent of the food sold was for the housewife. Now only fifty per cent is, and at least half of that is highly-processed with all sorts of additives-vegetable protein substitutes for meat and excessive salt to mask the taste of excessive sugar and on and on." Mayer wants calories, proteins, and minerals to appear by amount on all processed food labels. He would like to see date limiting and unit pricing by manufacturers...

...University of Wisconsin molecular biologist who long espoused what his colleagues considered a major heresy. According to accepted theory, the hereditary information in the chromosomes of all cells passes in the same direction. Double-stranded DNA molecules make single-stranded messenger RNA molecules, which then direct the production of proteins, the basic building blocks of every cell. Temin contended that the process is sometimes reversed: RNA, he insisted, could make DNA. Otherwise, he asked, how could cancer-causing viruses−which consist of bundles of RNA sheathed in protein−inject their deadly message into normal cells...

Memorial's Dr. Maurice Shils devised a fluid diet that could supply all the protein, vitamins, minerals and carbohydrates that the body needs. ...changed. Watson still includes personal comments where needed to propose a complete picture of his topic where the known facts present only a skeleton. For example, when discussing ribosomal structure, Watson says that "not even a semi-satisfactory hypothesis now exists for why ribosomes contain rRNA as well as protein." Nevertheless, in the next few sentences, Watson suggests a possible explanation for the function of rRNA at the ribosome; the reader who isn't satisfied with scientific ignorance is invited to consider Watson's opinions...
