...fact that Stardust is finally getting made says more about how Hollywood has changed than how Gaiman has. After The Lord of the Rings, Narnia and Harry Potter, not to mention 300, fantasy is a proven commodity. But the big studios may have a more difficult time domesticating Gaiman than they have with his colleagues. Stardust is tough to market--it's a category-breaking mix of comedy, romance, drama and action--and like many truly nerdy genre works, it's full of unhip, unironized emotion. ...pious Jews and Christians, as are the book's details regarding the sack of Jerusalem, in which Nebo-Sarsekim reportedly participated, and the subsequent Jewish exile "by the rivers of Babylon," commemorated by the Book of Psalms and Bob Marley. A quarter of the search traffic Google sends to eBay comes from people typing in terms like "ebay.com" into Google's search box, rather than from ads paid for by eBay, according to research firm Hitwise. And given that Google's ad policy prevents it from placing rivals' ads when users type in "eBay," the auction site gets a decent showing on Google even without paying for it and without rivals' ads cluttering...
