British Dirigible. Five years ago the British government decided to build two experimental dirigibles, the R-100 (709 ft. long) and the R-101 (730 ft. long), both huger than the Graf Zeppelin. Purpose of construction was to prove that airships would be useful to travel between the widely separated British dominions. In anticipation mooring masts have been built at Cardington, England (where the R-100 was put together), at Ismailia, Egypt, Karachi, India (where there is a hangar), Groutville, South Africa, and St. Hubert, Canada. As both ships were nearing completion this summer, dire were the prophecies that they...
...grant of supreme executive power to President Emilio Portes Gil in revising the criminal code may surely appear to most as a drastic reform. Considering the national peculiarities of the country, however, any discussion of the particular measures should prove of interest and even of value. The substitution of expert alienists in place of a jury system has at least the ultramodern touch; the alleviation of fines to suit the individual income of the prisoner though departing from the stern unswerving rigors of the usual courts of justice, seems in line with proper social ethics; whereas the last important item...
...speedy Junior showed none of his former tendencies to run for the sidelines, but made straight for the holes driven through the opposing forward wall. Once across the line of scrimmage, his weaving tactics stood him in good stead. Charles Devens is a strong runner whose versatility will prove valuable. He can back, the line, run the ends, and fits into the lateral passing game well. Harper backed up the line in the usual efficient manner and seems to have more speed than last season. Mays, Sophomore flash, is an elusive ball carrier who also seems lateral-pass minded...
...trouble will be experienced in filling the quarterback post this season with Putnam and Wood on the squad. Both of these are good tacticians and their all round ability will prove useful. The former's running is good and he has lost none of his dropkicking ability. Wood, too, is a capable dropkicker...
...Carr '28 as soccer coach. The former University captain expressed himself as encouraged at the showing of his charges after the game. The appearance of seven Sophomores in the starting lineup and the playing throughout the game seems to indicate that the season may at least prove more successful than the past few have been. There was of course apparent in Saturday's contest a good deal of ragged play which Coach Carr will set out to eliminate in this week's work.
