Displaying a marked improvement over the work of previous days especially in the matter of carrying the puck, the University hockey team held the B. A. A. to a 1 to 1 tie in a fifteen minute scrimmage yesterday afternoon. Both of the scores came as the result of good team-work combined with clean shots by Hopkins and Osgood respectively. The former with Sortwell played excellent hockey in the forward line, while in the defence Claflin was strong. All these three men played a fast and heady game...

...faster. The forward lines of the first two teams are rounding into form, the men getting started more quickly, and showing more speed in covering ground. The most noticeable defect is still the lack of head-work in team-play, and the failure to keep places in line. The puck is worked toward the opponents' goal by individual bursts of speed rather than by concerted action. The defence of both teams, though not phenomenal, is strong enough to ward off an attack no more powerful than the present one. Carnochan and Washburn are both doing good work at goal...

The defense of both teams, however, was hard to penetrate, and most of the tries at goals had to be made from a distance. The University was particularly weak in handling the puck and in team-play. Hopkins scored the team's only goal from a scrimmage

Captain H. A. H. Baker, left centre, about whom the whole of last year's attack was developed, will of course be able to play. He was the most spectacu- lar player seen on the ice last winter; in combination with Kuhn he carried the puck the length of the ice for many goals. W. Kuhn will also be available at right centre, and he and Baker should again prove and exceptionally fast pair of forwards. The only other regular player from last year's team will be T. Emmons at coverpoint. Of the substitutes, Patterson, at left...

...last practice of the season in the Arena yesterday afternoon. Work consisted of the usual preliminary skating and passing for the forwards, and a short scrimmage between the first and second teams which was won by the first team, 3 to 0.
