...says. "The enthusiasm he conveys is incredible. Talking to him, I fully expected him to turn into a cougar or burst into flames on the spot." Gordon also found Kanfer's spirited but unmethodical treatment of research materials somewhat extraordinary. "He puts everything together and it comes out pure Kanfer," she says. "That is really magic...

...framed against white backgrounds, lose their identity as functional objects and become complements to the two-dimensional prints of Josef Albers. The interweaving of threads, the alternation of horizontals and verticals, the contrast between the soft haze of nubbly fibers and the smooth sheen of tightly woven threads become pure formal design. One notices, as one would probably never think to do when looking at a dress or chair cover, the range of colors, weights, twists of threads natural and man-made that have been deliberately arranged to create an almost infinite variety of patterns. ...resistance of the individual departments to affirmative action was probably the most important single reason for the HEW's only outright rejection of the plan. It's easy to understand why--the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, of all the faculties at Harvard, is most concerned with pure scholarship, and that seems to entail a shutting out of everything else in the world. Once a hard-charging guard for the College of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minn., Robert D. Lund voices a business philosophy that is pure Vince Lombardi. "The way to win," he says, "is to get out in front and improve your position. When you're green you're growing, but when you're ripe you're next to rotten." His hard sell seemed appropriate enough at General Motors' Chevrolet division, where as general sales manager he set a record of 3 million vehicles sold in 1971, but somewhat out of place at the Cadillac...
