Freud was, without any dispute, the father of modern psychiatry. He started fights that are still raging; but every psychiatrist, pure Freudian or not, admits his debt to the master. During the past 25 years, Freud's ideas have in some way influenced-or thrilled or outraged-almost every literate person on earth...
Last week Dr. Edward U. Condon, Chief of the U.S. National Bureau of Standards, told the Paris conference that the job had been done-by transmutation. Pure gold (atomic weight 197), placed in an atomic pile and exposed to a storm of neutrons, is transmuted into a single mercury isotope with atomic weight 198. This one-isotope mercury gives off green light waves of extraordinary uniformity, as measuring sticks. They are much better than cadmium light; they are vastly better than the meter bar. Scientists using mercury light should be able to measure with an accuracy of one part...
Clearest instance of the picture's split personality is the work of Cameraman Ted McCord. If this is the adamant attitude of the West, the Russians can counter legitimately (from a point of pure logic) that the capitalist nations can never be forgiven for their support of Admiral Kolchak in 1917, when he tried to overthrow the revolution and re-establish ezarism. The outcome of such charge and counter-charge must eventually reduce into whether Cain was a 100 percent American or a mystic...
...Bobby Clark farce. You cannot hinder Clark with lines and stage directions and still have him come across the footlights. Gone are the painted glasses and most of the leering at naked women; gone are the usual bits of business with canes and other props; consequently, gone is the pure pleasure of viewing Bobby Clark...
