...Great Somerford, Wiltshire, about 80 miles west of London. Mark's grandfather was an equerry to King George VI. His father, Peter Phillips, is a director of T. Wall & Sons, a large produce firm that specializes in pork sausages and ice cream (and which, incidentally, is an official purveyor to the Queen). Mark attended Marlborough College, one of Britain's best public (meaning private) schools, before entering the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst. Though he was an all-round athlete at school, his favorite sport is the same as Anne's-horse-riding...

Paulucci, 54, an Italian immigrant's son, started in the food business helping his mother sell home-canned pasta in her living room. In 1947 he borrowed $2,500 and created Chun King, the purveyor of canned Chinese food. He sold out to tobacco giant R.J. Reynolds in 1966 for $63 million in cash, later started Jeno's Inc., a producer of frozen pizza and other foods. Last year Jeno's sales were $50 million. ...romantic love that turned the Detroit-based soul factory into a multimillion-dollar corporation, and made many of its stars rich. Gaye, for example, started out in 1961 as a Johnny Mathis-type balladeer with a silvery tenor voice and by 1967 had become Motown's No. 1 purveyor of black soul. Neither that success nor his kinship with God has given Gaye a notably pious manner. A gangly, soft-spoken man of 32 with neatly trimmed beard and mustache, he has the easy, confident manner of a big-name athlete -which perhaps explains why he was able...

Gardner, a liberal Republican, has been attacked in the G.O.P. National Committee's newsletter "Monday" as "a purveyor of the radical Democratic line on virtually every issue." Gardner once had to apologize for a staff goof that permitted the Democratic National Committee to use his mailing list for fund raising. He has been vulnerable on another count: Lyn Nofziger of the Republican National Committee has charged him with creating a personality cult. That accusation is undoubtedly unfair. But it is true that John Gardner's personal prestige and organizational skill have been essential in attracting supporters to Common...
