A discovery which may furnish a better method of controlling the spread of sleeping sickness was announced recently by R. H. T. P. Harris, director of research in Zululand. He found the tsetse fly sensitive to pyrethrum (insect powder.) and veratrine (obtained from the root of the Indian poke). Especially effective was a .5% mixture of veratrine and cocoanut oil.
