...Fitzsimmons? If that’s the case, then he obviously knows who deserves to be at Harvard. If not, he has no more authority to make these generalizations than we have to state that he has utterly no business representing Harvard as a student himself or in whatever quasi-faculty position he holds...

...colonial days, the mountains surrounding Sapa were referred to as the Tonkinese Alps for the quasi-European climate of the region and the exquisite views. Vietnam's highest peak, Mount Fansipan, towers above the town at a height of 3,143 m, lofty enough that it's often shrouded in mist and sometimes sprinkled with snow. Four-day climbing excursions to the summit include tents, porters and sleeping bags, and start at a reasonable $50 per person. ...ever get to hearing Kissin play Bach, and one could hear why he has not made unadulterated Bach a part of his performing repertoire. He is clearly most at home with the romantics, and even this romanticized version of Bach felt awkward and rigid. The opening prelude is marked quasi improvisandio, yet Kissin made it sound like he had been practicing it the same way for years. He then delivered a fugue that was technically solid but lacked the charm and grace needed to propel it forward...
