...stone friezes that depicted the ancient battles between gods and men. From Angkor, the Kennedy party was to go to the port city of Sihanoukville, where Jacqueline was to rename a street "Avenue President Kennedy," and then back to Thailand, where she was to dine with the King and Queen...
...Subversive Activities Control Board could have been invented by Gilbert and Sullivan. Like the Queen's Navee, Savoyard-style, it provides its members with impressive-sounding responsibilities, conveys a generous ($26,000) salary, and requires virtually no work at all. The board has heard not a single case in the past 19 months and is not likely to hear one any time soon. With an economy fever gripping Congress, SACB-together with its nearly $300,000 annual budget-would seem to be an ideal target, but the Senate voted overwhelmingly last week not to dissolve the board...
...incarnate, but he does not trust his kingdom's fate entirely to heavenly hands. This week he was off to Washington to see Lyndon Johnson, in the hope that the coming year will bring an ample number of gifts stamped "Made in U.S.A." From Russia's President Nikolai Podgorny came a 31-ft. porcelain vase, from Tunisian President Habib Bourguiba a solid gold olive tree and from Kuwait's Emir Sabah as Salem as Sabah two black Arabian stallions. President Ferdinand Marcos of the Philippines sent a packet of seeds of a new strain of rice that, if it finds the right soil...
Unfortunately, there is nothing royal about Camelot's carious screen version. It has been brought crunchingly down to earth by the churlish touch of Director Joshua Logan. To be sure, the film is a re-creation of the triangled plot involving King Arthur (Richard Harris), Queen Guenevere (Vanessa Redgrave) and Lancelot (Franco Nero), the interloper-knight who gives his rivals at the Round Table their joust desserts, thereby arousing the lady's passions. The King ignores their affair until the appearance of his bastard son Mordred (David Hemmings), who sunders the kingdom with slander and rumor...
