Last evening, Mr. J. H. Ropes discussed the political and legal career of Sir Francis Bacon, with special reference to his relations with Queen Elizabeth, Essex, Buckingham and Burleigh. In the course of his remarks he read largely from Spedding; the different biographies of Bacon as a politician and judicial official were also carefully compared.
