...even Quentin Tarantino produces this many corpses. Monday-morning quarterbacking gave way to Monday-morning desk clearing last week when five NFL head coaches were fired even before the regular season ended, setting one of the league's more inglorious records. The Seattle Seahawks' DENNIS ERICKSON, the Philadelphia Eagles' RAY RHODES, the Baltimore Ravens' TED MARCHIBRODA, the Chicago Bears' DAVE WANNSTEDT and the Carolina Panthers' DOM CAPERS were all unemployed by Monday night. With heads rolling like loose balls, an expansion team set to debut and more coaches on shaky ground, 11 positions may need filling for next season...

Strangely enough, Wait Until Dark is one of the few plays that actually works better as a film. Just ask Quentin Tarantino--this summer, he starred in a miserably static Broadway production of the play that paled in comparison to the genuinely frightening 1967 film starring Audrey Hepburn. In addition to its complex roles, which require subtle yet stead-fast interpretation, it is an immensely technical production filled with lighting and staging tricks that require consistently perfect timing. Thus, when the Adams House Drama Society announced that it was staging Wait Until Dark in the claustrophobic Pool Theater, eyebrows were...

...that it will be honed by the movie's conclusion. But that possibility is obliterated by the new murder mystery plot that takes over in the second half. Whatever credibility the script had up to that point is undermined by the oddity of the shift, making the movie a Quentin Tarantino imitation gone awry; the macabre violence and odd moralistic overtones undercut Grigoris' Robin Hood resonance. After a dramatic moral battle in which Tommy and Griorgis are at each other's throats in a good 10 minutes of suspense, the moment of moralizing in cut in favor of Kentucky Fried...
