Rumors to the effect that Princeton will be forced to be quarantined or disbanded if any more cases of scarlet fever developed, have been declared unfounded by Dr. Joseph E. Raycroft, Director of the Department of Physical Education. The regulation in question, it has been ascertained, applies only to public schools under the jurisdiction of the local board of education, which has no control over Princeton...
...Another objection that has been raised is that a man doing such work would lose caste among his fellow-students. This question may best be answered by the statement that this year, 102 men registered at the Student Employment Office as desiring this sort of work. Of this number 44 were experienced. That there is this demand, and especially that men who have done the work and know what it is wish to do more of it, seems to dispose conclusively of this objection. It is hardly clear just why such employment works to a man's disadvantage any more...
Here is where the question of student employment comes in. At least three-fourths of the students in the universities and colleges of the West are earning their way--nearly all of them, of course, because they have to, a few because they want to. The best works of art are so inestimably satisfying in each particular as to inhibit curiosity. I give the Monthly the highest praise when I say that I find nothing dependent for its value upon any "interest," either that which seeks the solution of some fictitious plot...
President Lowell addressed the members of the Junior class who gathered at the smoker in the Union last night on the question of Senior Dormitories, giving a brief history of the custom. Until 1910 a great deal of dissatisfaction arose every year about the dormitory question; but in that year Lothrop Withington '11 led the movement which resulted in the occupation of Stoughton, Hollis, Holworthy, and Thayer by members of the Senior class. Since that time the custom has been kept, and the rooms allotted by a class committee. Showers have been put in, and other improvements have been made...
