...inspiration. Ralph Zito misses some of the conflicts in Antony's nature--we rarely see him struggling with himself and then giving in--but he carries himself well, and his expressive voice capable of seemingly effortless changes in pitch and volume, projecting intensity of thought and feeling in quieter moments. James Bundy's Octavius Caesar strikes a few puzzlingly bfzarre, manic notes where he shrieks incomprehensibly and furiously rattles off his lines, but he successfully gives us a consumed, highly charged man of action. Dan Becker as the waterlogged messenger and David Johnson as Antony's loyal servant contribute modestly...
...well in Nashville just never got off the ground this time. The characters are awkward stereotypes, and the little vignettes are often cruel and crude. But the film gets better as it goes along. Altman's whipped up a surrealistic storm sequence that will stun you, and in quieter scenes he's evolved some subliminal editing techniques that immerse you in the characters without your even realizing it. Even so, because the 767 is so expensive (around $25 million, not counting spares and support equipment), United also bought 30 advanced versions of the popular 727, for $400 million...
...Pianist Vladimir Horowitz; RCA); Concert Favorites (Pianist Vladimir Horowitz; RCA). Released for Horowitz's golden jubilee year, both records are selections from mono collections compiled over three decades. Chopin's demanding B-flat-minor sonata, a Horowitz signature, is here. The Favorites album shows Horowitz's quieter side, with such masterly but unpretentious works as Scarlatti's Sonata in E-Major and Mendelssohn's Variations Sérieuses. Even without stereo tracking, the playing here is what Horowitz fans expect: the best...
