...called because of the dissatisfaction at the determination to row Cornell, and because it was understood that many of the class had not seen the notices of the previous meeting. After a consultation with the Executive Committee it was thought better to wait and meet Cornell in a University race at some future time, and not to row them now, considering the present misunderstanding which exists between the two colleges, - an opinion which was expressed by two of that committee in the meeting. Then it was unanimously voted to challenge Columbia...

...YALE graduate of several years' standing sends us a letter treating of the proposed Freshman race at New London, which will be found in another column. He states at considerable length the serious objections there exist to introducing at New London regattas outside the regular University match, and disparages anything of the nature of "regatta tournaments" and "side-shows." Our correspondent's views deserve careful attention, for he knows what he is talking about, - having had the unenviable task of making the necessary preparations for the New London race last summer. As to the question, whether a Freshman race held...

Every branch of Athletics is now so quiet that nothing of interest can be said or written. The New York Athletic Club held two days' sport at Gilmore's Garden, New York, but the times made were poor, and the races devoid of any particular interest. The mile-run was won in 4 min. 52 1/2 sec. (we think) by a man with 58 yards' start, which would make him about as good as 5 min. or 5 min. 2 sec., for the full distance. The times made in the bicycle race were very poor, one two-mile heat being...

SKATING.Why can't the Athletic Association give some skating-races this winter, and so help to fill up the dull season? A course could be easily laid out, on Fresh Pond or some other neighboring water, of say a straight quarter-mile, and races of a mile, half-quarter, hundred yards, etc., could be easily given. If the H. A. A. will do so, the editor of this column will give a $ 10 cup for a race of quarter-mile heats, best two in three. Such a race should furnish good sport, and fast time would doubtless be made...

...idea of a "World's Rowing Regatta" upon "clear, placid Leman," one of the most beautiful sheets of water to be found on the globe, adapted in every way for a perfect race, where all the boats entered could start in line and have full space for work, - is certainly as novel as it is pleasing, and, with my colleagues of the Consular Corps, I sincerely hope that all true admirers of Aquatic sports throughout the world will unite in promoting such a wished-for consummation...
