...sports. A cold east wind interfered seriously with the contests, and it is greatly to the credit of the men that three of the records were so nearly broken. Cogswell's time in the half-mile run, Wright's in the mile walk, and Merrill's in the bicycle race were all of them so close to the Harvard records that it is safe to say that the records would have gone under more favorable conditions...

...meeting commenced promptly at 2.30, with the two-mile bicycle race, by H. Merrill, '90. the only entry, ridden to break the record of Dean, '88, 6 minutes and 28 seconds. The first mile was 3 minutes and 12 seconds, just two miles, 6 minutes and 31 seconds, just three seconds slower than the previous record. This is a great improvement over the record made last fall. The runners in the first heat of the 100-yards dash were J. W. Merrill, '89, H. R. Miles, '88, E. C. Stowell, '88, G. S. Mandell, '89, There was a close brush...

...class races are over at last and the nervous tension that prevaded a large part of the college community for the past week has ceased to be felt. The crews rowed a very close and exciting race and surprised even the best informed by the order in which they pulled across the finish. We wish to congratulate '87 on her well-earned success, as by winning this race she placed the victor's wreath on her head which will be remembered long after the members of the present seniors are scattered in the four corners of the world...
