...cliches especially distort Donna and Marlene's friendship and literally reduces them to brawling in a bar. The mixture of sadness, anger and confusion on Donna's face as she tries to decide what to say and for whom to say it expresses the real emotions of what a racist society can do to those trapped within. No matter what she says, there will still be no answer to the problem. The responsibility for the issue belongs to nobody in particular, the film says, but everyone is a participant...
...racist threats are deplorable--this is one area when on-campus demonstrations have the desired impact. But the other issues are more complex. Affirmative action has no doubt helped provide opportunities to those who have been deprived of them by our racist society. But it's time Blacks admit that, in some ways, affirmative action has diverted too much of our attention from the more important concern of making better educational opportunities available to all Blacks. Our primary goal should be to raise Black achievement to a level that makes affirmative action no longer necessary. Black campus organizations should stress...
...energy development are non-existent. While Harvard helps to finance the energy and weapons race, students on campus are informed of benevolent divestitures and kind donations of (possibly) $70,000 for a potential Third World Center. Somehow between the paperwork, committees, and sub-committees Harvard's complicity in racist, lethal investments continues. Humanitarianism, liberalism, the intellectual process, and our collective survival are betrayed again...
...comes as no surprise that these attacks are happening now. Reagan sponsors brutal political repression through "friendship" with the likes of South Korea's Chun Doo Hwan, and lethal aid to the murdering junta in El Salvador. And on the home front, the racist "justice" in Greensboro set the stage for Reagan's America: it's open season on Blacks, workers and the left...
...from being an ivory tower, Harvard is an important think-tank for U.S. imperialism, training such notables as war criminal Henry Kissinger. Harvard is also the home of Klitgaard, whose racist "admissions report" calls for Blacks to leave this enclave of wealthy white privilege. Here lies the reactionary hypocrisy of the Harvard administration: Marxists are "outside agitators" and "security risks" while real criminals like Brzezinski and Harold Brown--nuclear-armed cold-warriors who are genuine "security risks"--are welcome guests and paid to mouth their imperialist propaganda at Harvard. The Harvard administration may well despise the SYL for being communists...
