Racquetball was invented by a Connecticut tennis pro in the late '40s when he substituted a sawed-off tennis racquet for the wooden paddleball racquet and put strings in the handball-derived game. Played on a four-wall court 20 ft. wide, 40 ft. long and 20 ft. high, the 2½-in. ball must be returned to the front wall before it bounces twice.
