When he was an impoverished law student and she a radiant Portia in a touring Shakespeare company, they spent three delirious days together. It was, Laurence Olivier says, the love of his life, exerting such a powerful hold that he had no choice thereafter but bachelorhood. Katharine Hepburn claims she can't remember a thing about it, but since he is now London's leading barrister, perhaps he will stop his nostalgic mooning and get on with the business of defending the excellent name and fortune she married. Can anyone, after all, seriously believe that she promised...
Strangely, Losey did not apply Copernican tenets to his casting. Galileo, who ought to be the radiant center of this dramatic universe, is so insubstantially summoned up by Topol that he is outshone and outdone by the secondary heavenly bodies. He seems to revolve around them. Topol, who last loped in Fiddler on the Roof, has a sort of toothy ingenuousness that gives Galileo an unfortunate puppy-dog quality. When Toni's friend Nina announces "I have confidence, I'm wild, I'm radiant, I'm magnificent" one wants to grab her and shake her, shouting "Be it, don't say it." Nina talks incessantly about her daughter, who we are to believe is the most important person in her life--and yet we never see her daughter on stage, let alone the interplay...

Dore discovered the clot through two recently refined tests using radioactive isotopes. First they injected human albumen tagged with radioactive iodine-131 or technetium into an arm vein. The radiant particles circulated through the small blood vessels of Nixon's lungs, and a scintillation scanner took an electronic "picture" of their distribution. Nixon's scan showed a blank area on the outer side of the right lung: the clot had settled there in a small artery, leaving...
