Most of the supporting cast fares much better. Ralph J. Zito nicely depicts his character's subtle transformation from a young rake interested only in an amourous conquest into a sicere and passionate suitor. Chrysalde (James A. Bundy), Arnolphe's friend and Moliere's obligatory voice of reason, is also pleasantly portrayed. With an agreeably light touch, Bundy successfully combines a tone of reasonableness with one of faint mockery. Christian D. Clemenson excels as the notary. Positively inflated with pomposity, he delivers Moliere's gentle (in this case) parody of complacent bureaucrats with hilarious accuracy...

William Wycherly was one of the better writers from this period, and The Country Wife is one of his better plays, some say the best. The plot revolves around a professional rake named Horner, who with the help of his doctor, Quack, convinces the men of London society that he is impotent. Led by Sir Jaspar Fidget, these men of court eagerly dump their wives on Horner in the hopes that his "harmless" company will keep them away from young swains who would sooner cuckold a husband than look at one. Naturally, Horner spends the rest of the play leaping...
...Collins, Beatty carried on a public affair with Splendor Co-Star Natalie Wood. It broke up her marriage to Actor Robert Wagner, though they later remarried.
