MARYLAND: Mahoney Rides Again If the name of Congressman Charles McC. Mathias ever becomes a household word, much of the credit will accrue to George P. Mahoney, the most indefatigable also-ran in Maryland's history. Defeated in seven runs for the Senate or the governorship, Mahoney has nonetheless managed to make and break several other men's political fortunes en route to disaster. In 1966, Mahoney narrowly won the Democratic gubernatorial nomination, but his bumbling style and racist opinions (he campaigned on the slogan: "Your home is your castle-protect it!") prompted many Democrats to vote...
Down to the Last. The second day's competition began with the 110-meter hurdles, and Bill ran it in 14.9 sec., .3 sec. slower than his best. His discus throw, 143 ft. 31 in., was "near what I wanted," but the pole vault almost proved a disaster. "I just about had a heart attack when I missed the opening height on my first two attempts," said Toomey. He pulled himself together to vault 13 ft. 91 in., tying his personal record. The thin air may have been a boon to Oregon's Dick Fosbury, whose unorthodox, over-the-bar-backwards, high-jumping style propelled him to an Olympic record height...
...Bunnies had scored first when Jack Noyes stole the ball from Dunster's punter and ran for a touchdown. Lowell held Eliot to a scoreless...
Penn halfback Gerry Santini ran for one touchdown last week, and quarterback Bernie Zbrzeznj threw for another to pace the Penn offense as they have done all season. Penn's football rebuilding program--initiated five years ago with the hiring of Head Coach Bob O'Dell--seems finally ready to bear fruit...
