What exactly is the law on sexual harassment, and how did it evolve into such a beast? Legally speaking, there are two kinds of sexual harassment, and Jones--to take a not so random example--charges both. The first is called "quid pro quo" harassment, and it's the easier to grasp. If your boss docks your pay or fires you or otherwise punishes you for rebuffing an advance, he's flat-out guilty. Jones, for instance, says her supervisors at the little state office where she was a clerk mistreated her after she rejected Governor Clinton's alleged advance...
Stage movements added little to Unwound's already dry personality. Rumsey would occasionally break from his steady position for a gulp of beer. Trosper would often wince or bob up and down while emoting over some random, nonsensical lyric. Even drummer Sara Lund's top-heavy noggin kept her head perpetually lopsided; combined with an empty, stunned gaze, Lund provided quite the unsettling image...
...truly nuts, just bite the bullet and ask for a double or a suite of some sort. Singles off a hallway are certainly not all that you dream of. Without a doubt, it is easier to live with a roommate of your choice next year, rather than with your random roommates this year...
Coupland has mastered the art of the precisely timed witticism, the understatement and the random comic comparison. His language dances around its subjects, as when Richard discovers that the end of the world has come and "an adrenaline fang bites the rear of his neck." Coupland extends his metaphor of human infringement on nature with the words he uses to describe the post-apocalyptic world: "The darkening sky is becoming a warm, dead Xerox and the winds blow forcefully as though aimed from a hair blower," and "Below them, the fire on the sloping neighborhoods burns like a million...
...Perhaps randomized housing (though in some cases, seemingly not so random at all) has had a few positive effects. The self-segregation that took place among students of all ethnicities and interests is now confined to the oversized blocking groups, and house life now exposes students to a wide variety of peers they may have never otherwise met. We self-segregate enough in the real world--a little forced integration shouldn't hurt...
