...other Red satellites, political repression in East Germany is getting worse, and even more reminiscent of Nazi tactics. To combat widespread apathy among workers, which this year by the regime's own estimate contributed to $180 million in lost industrial production, the Reds introduced a system of rank-and-file "control teams" with wide powers to crack down on dissidents. At the political prison in Hohenschönhausen near Berlin, a former Nazi forced-labor camp, the Communists recently revived the infamous system of "Kapos"-prisoners hand-picked for cruelty who mete out punishment to other prisoners...
...Bears are the dullest team in pro football- to anybody but a connoisseur of crunch. They hug the ground defiantly, pass only under duress, rank No. 8 in the fourteen-team N.F.L. m scoring (with 233 points) and No. 11 in total offense (with 3,329 yds.). Some Objections. Many union leaders feel that such plans tend to make workers feel like managers and soften labor's punch in collective bargaining (wage hikes and extra benefits, after all, come out of profits). The U.A.W. rank and file was disappointed that last week's American Motors payout was slightly less than last year, and Reuther, in negotiation with the Big Three, may be willing to trade off his profit-sharing demand if he can win shorter hours or higher wages. Some executives begrudge profit sharing to workers who (they think) do less to increase earnings than...
