...hurdles. In this event Dupont, the only Harvard man running, tripped at the sixth hurdle and was unable to recover himself until the three Yale runners were beyond reach. In the 440-yard run the record of 52 seconds, made by Merrihew in his Freshman year, was broken by Ranney by 1-5 of a second. The feature of the meet, however, was the 220-yard dash, which was won by Billings in 22 2-5 seconds, at a point when the prospects for victory appeared to favor Yale.
