...candidate for the title of World's Most Competitive Human; he is completely unfamiliar with hushed, conciliatory tones (even in intimate moments, his thick Boston accent and habit of applying verbal italics to every third word make Feinberg sound as if he is in the midst of a perpetual rant). He is, not surprisingly, a very successful lawyer...

...Four bold notes, ascending by thirds, and then a break; the pattern repeated four times in the first verse, and Van Eaton's drums emphasizing the musical statement, as JLL itemizes a lover's complaint, "You shake my nerves and you rattle my brain..." Mid-rant, he muses that passion has its perverse perks ("You broke my will, but what a thrill"), before surrendering to ecstatic inanity: "Goodness gracious! Great balls of fire!" Eminem could lose millions of dollars to bootleggers, but his rant obscures the fact that as a performer, he's actually maturing. The Eminem Show has offensive and profane lyrics, but it's also a significant work of pop culture. If it comes up a bit short of being a great rap album, it leaves no doubt that Eminem is a great rapper...
