There are the ones about a rapist who preyed on the elderly, the hood who stuffed a rival into a laundry dryer, a sort of Jack the Shaver who depilated his victims with a razor, and the tale about the monsignor who died in a brothel: the police dressed him and propped him in his car, which they parked at a shopping center. It was piously announced that the prelate had suffered a heart attack while reaching for his glove compartment...

SOON AFTER Longshoe befriends Davis, Mr. Nett (Bob Maroff), the prison guard assigned to Davis's floor, launches into an unexpected harangue of the newcomer. Nett reveals Davis's crime: the clean-cut prisoner is a convicted child rapist. The guard felt prompted to indict Davis before the inmates because a child molester had attacked his daughter. The insertion of this twist in the personality of Davis provides the dramatic device so badly needed in this plot. Longshoe suddenly pulls out of his self-assumed brother's keeper role, planting a well-aimed globule of spit on Davis's face...

When the victims of rapists range from toddlers to grandmothers, it should become apparent that it is not a "teasing female" that falls prey to the rapist but instead a female who happens to be accessible and appears to be vulnerable that becomes an object that can easily be overpowered to vent displaced feelings of anger and hostility...
