...motivate Inglis' socially conservative base to get out and vote, but it could also bring pro-Clinton African Americans to the polls. In any case, the race is going right to the wire, and it won't be pretty. Hollings has already called his opponent a "goddamn skunk," a "rascal" and a "reptile." The courteous Inglis has turned the outbursts into an issue; he is planning to ride across highways 26 and 85 in his trademark bright-red R.V. on what he's calling the "Expect More Tour." But South Carolinians will have to decide whether expecting more means they...
Armstrong traveled the world constantly. One example of his charming brashness revealed itself when he concertized before the King of England in 1932 and introduced a number by saying, "This one's for you, Rex: I'll Be Glad When You're Dead, You Rascal You." He had a great love for children, was always willing to help out fellow musicians and passed out laxatives to royalty and heads of state. However well he was received in Europe, the large public celebrations with which West Africans welcomed him during a tour in the late '50s were far more appropriate...
...Americans truly believe they believe in free speech," says Paul McMasters, the forum's First Amendment ombudsman. ...missionary trip will bring fame and recognition to their home town, Chelm. After much hemming and hawing, Shlemiel's wife and family permit him to set out on his journey, but the man never gets very far out of Chelm. On the first night he sets out, a rascal (Benjamin Evett) deceives him into going back towards his home town, in the process convincing him that there are two Chelms. Returning to the town, Shlemiel and the rest of the inhabitants wait for his doppelganger to arrive from the second Chelm, the poor man must deal with his children...
...some cases the actors surpass their own script and achieve the seemingly impossible task of carrying 'Shlemiel' to a higher plane. Benjamin Evett who plays the mischievous Chaim Rascal as well as the Chelmish sage Dopey Pretzel, when not stealing Shlemiel's latkas is doing the same with the stage. Comfortable and at ease with the silliness with the lyrics, he sings with the glee of a Puck and the energy to match the Klezmer Band's clarinet. Also exceptional are the buffoon Gronam Ox and his wife Yenta Pesha (Marilyn Sokol). Shlemiel himself (Will LeBow) is shlemiely enough...
