At the start, Farely rowed about 36 strokes to the minute, but soon lowered his pace to 28 strokes. This rate was maintained over the entire course, with the exception of a slight raise at the two-mile mark, and at the finish. The rowing was very satisfactory and continual improvement has been shown lately. The men showed a tendency to rush their slides and to get out of unison on settling down...
