There was an error in TIME's 10 Questions interview with Al Roker [Dec. 7]. Roker incorrectly reports that "1 in 200" dies of complications from laparoscopic gastric bypass, the procedure he had in 2002. According to a July 2009 study by the National Institutes of Health, the mortality rate associated with this gastric bypass is about 1 in 500, or 0.2%. We agree with Roker that the decision to have surgery is an important one and should not be made "because someone on TV made that decision." Zuma's pledge was too little, too late for Sindiswa, who died on July 22. Immediately after we took Elizabeth off the streets, Hamman and I drove her eight hours to her home in Eastern Cape. Wary of the failure rate of Lombard's unmonitored returns, we worked with a dedicated social worker in Indwe to ensure that the conditions under which she was originally trafficked did not reappear. A suburban-Chicago couple has given her a full scholarship, enabling the otherwise impossible goal of finishing school. She is HIV-negative. It is a stretch to call her lucky...

Eventually, the evolutionary process will catch up, as new seedlings without the frost response take over. "In principle, however," says Kuparinen, "this process will take a long time. The rate of evolution is slower than the rate at which climate will change." The forests would thus get no benefit, remaining stunted until seedlings without early dormancy genes can take root and take over...
...consulting firm KPMG. In the past, American studios operating from the Bollywood capital of Mumbai were limited by relatively few outlets; in 2005, there were only 13,000 single-screen cinemas in a country with 1.2 billion people. But India's real estate boom and 9% economic growth rate (it has now backed down to 7%) helped usher in a herd of multiplexes - and new profits for U.S. players. American studios now estimate that 65% of their earnings come from screenings at multiplexes. Hollywood films, which only cashed in on 1% of the total Indian market 10 years...
