From the best-connected little boy in Hollywood's Rat Pack came a starry-eyed tribute to Patrol Leader Frank Sinatra, 43. After intoning a scoutlike litany of Sinatra's virtues-"energy, imagination, kindness, thoughtfulness, awareness"- Presidential Brother-in-Law Peter Lawford, 36, summed up: "Frank's a giant, a fantastic human. I don't want to sound phony, but I consider it a privilege to live in the same era Frank...
...Friedman's Salamander (in New World Writing) is a sweet, sad, perceptive story of how a seven-year-old New York boy becomes a philosopher. B. H. He is no homecoming hero at all. He is still Grigori, and everyone in the audience knows...
...Arnie is running his own crime syndicate on Manhattan's Lower East Side. At 20, he is running a bucket shop. Soon he sets up a gambling house, and moves in on the horse parlors. But after fingering a little punk (Rooney) who has served him loyally, the rat (as he did in real life) catches a fatal dose of lead poisoning in Room 349 of the Park Central Hotel...
