About 100 students were present at the annual "open house" at Phillips Brooks House on Christmas evening. The company gathered before the open fire in the parlor to enjoy one of the most entertaining programs ever given at these gatherings. After Professor George Herbert Palmer '64 read the story of Christ's birth from the Scriptures and the "Hymn" from Milton's "Ode on Nativity"; Miss Margaretta Josephene Penick, of the Emerson College of Oratory, rendered her interesting program entitled, "An Evening of Dialect." ...reports of the various committees, secretary-treasurer and district representatives will be read in the afternoon. Professor H. A. Farr will read the report from Yale, Professor J. E. Raycroft the open from Princeton, and others the ones from North Carolina, Tennessee, Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma and Oregon Universities. Of the committee reports, the most important will be those on football rules, track rules, association football, swimming and the committee to investigate the effects of intercollegiate athletics. When Miss George was in the midst of her New York season she offered a prize of $1,000, advance royalty, and a Broadway production for a play by a college student suitable for her use.
