Luckily, however, these early jitters disappear as the play moves onward. Rayd Abu-Ayyash '01 gives the production's most outstanding performance as Creon, King of Thebes, whose Machiavellian exterior hides a more compassionate realism that cares more for the living than for the dead. Declaring Polynices a traitor was a political expediency, yet Creon argues it has created a peace that Antigone's actions may threaten. Abu-Ayyash has Antigone's most finely drawn character in Creon, to be sure, but he does not shrink from the task, maintaining a strong, clean elocution and succeeding at keeping his long...

...contemporary Piano Trio, a piece by Schnittke in two movements, emerged under the trio's hands as a work of magical realism. In Schnittke's piece, the first movement begins deceptively happily before spiralling into intermittent dissonance. Pressler created a haunting echo under the strings, an ever-bubbling undercurrent of the dissonance to come, as each performer surprised the audience as he punctured the melody with a seemingly random trill...

...face, Bush's realism might seem a more prudent application of U.S. resources than Gore's crusading interventionism. But the messiness of the global scene requires active, consistent American leadership - which is impossible if the U.S. insists simply on staying at home. In that sense, Gore's assertive policy appears more appropriate in the current environment, in which U.S. security faces no grave challenges, but regional flare-ups can still become destabilizing conflagrations. It's not surprising that Bush has struggled to remain consistent. He says stability in "our own hemisphere" would be among his four top foreign policy priorities...

...comedy about a dysfunctional family striving to evade the inevitable. Walker takes a close look at the hardships of urban life as well as the power of loe and loyalty that binds a family together. The play looks to be hilarious, yet diffused with a strong sense of realism. Director Dorothy Fortenberry '02 also highlights the creativity of the production, as most cast members knew little of Walker's story. Look out for the set design and sound design, which Fortenberry describes as "abstract and realistic...

...Meadows is a talented supporting cast headlined by Karyn Parsons, better known to our generation as Hillary from "The Fresh Prince of Bel Air". Her steady presence as the kind, down-to-earth Julie (and the only girl who can resist Leon's charms) provides a refreshing dose of realism that compliments Meadows' outrageous antics, and their unique dynamic gives the audience something to root for. Billy Dee Williams is great as the smooth-voiced Lester, owner of Leon's favorite hangout, the Straight Up Lounge, and occasional narrator of Leon's story. Tiffany Thiessen turns up the heat...
