...recognize them and open talks. The insurgency has been pretty localized, and you don't get impression that they have much in way of ammunition or arms. Most of the weapons they're carrying are of World War II vintage, although there are a few AK-47s. The rebel force probably numbers a few hundred, but they're getting new volunteers all the time. We saw a steady flow of young men moving into the rebel-controlled zone. They don't appear to be very organized at this stage, or to have the resources to open up new fronts...
...that point freshman Ryan Browne, playing in the No. 5 spot, broke serve to win the second set of his match in a tiebreak and force a third. His Running Rebel opponent, Arin Tafazoli, quickly regained form and took the third set 6-3, putting UNLV up 3-1. Similarly, at No.4 singles junior William Lee won a second set tiebreak. It was a full-throated barbaric howl, the one profitable rebel yell of the Internet that really drove fear deep into the hearts of the old-media infantry. By last Wednesday, when the Robert E. Lee of this rebel force reached his Appomattox, the yell sounded more like an ironic groan. First-quarter sales set to be 40% off last year's estimate? Ya-hoo. Stock down 92% from its peak, with no end to the freefall in sight? Ya-hooey...
NATO officials concede that the problem is partly of their own making. A three-mile-wide buffer zone along the Kosovo border, created by NATO to keep Serbian forces at bay, has become the perfect working environment for Albanian rebels. NATO's new plan allows for lightly armed Serbian troops to patrol a section of the zone near Macedonia in order to disrupt rebel incursions. Meanwhile, in Kosovo, U.S. troops have stepped up their patrols...
