...Welcome Rebuff? A similar New York snub of Feisal's half brother, the former King Saud, by Mayor Robert Wagner in 1957 nearly precipitated an international incident. But no one appeared overly perturbed last week. The Waldorf rolled out the usual red carpet for the visiting monarch, the 35th-floor presidential suite was made fit for a King, and Feisal appeared content to dine (on cold shoulder?) in his quarters. "I think," said a Saudi official, "the King is above being angered by something trivial like this...
...returned to his post, the Japanese press, especially the more socialist papers, applauded his "dissension from U.S. policy in Vietnam." Reischauer was quick to put a damper on this kind of talk, and attacked the press as giving a lopsided picture of the situation in Vietnam. On Monday, President Johnson said that "strength is the only language that the Communists understand," and that "it is vitally important to every American family that we stop the Communists in South Vietnam...
...Miss Tolliver have harder jobs, but they fail for many of the same reasons as the others. In the scene where Teacher comes home drunk and tries to talk to the insolent, isolated Andri, Temin and Nagin could have developed a beautiful pattern of slurred overture and acid rebuff. They merely mixed lines and frustrations. The last scene between Barblin and Andri might have built to a striking conclusion. Nagin and Miss Tolliver strove and fumbled, but without precision or notable effect...
