John Brennan, Deputy National Security Adviser for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism, is now President Barack Obama's official attack dog in an escalating war of words with Republicans. He has taken on the task of appearing in the media to systematically rebut what he says are politically motivated criticisms of the Administration's counterterrorism tactics. Brennan is a good pick for the job. A longtime CIA official who was blocked by the Democratic left from becoming the head of the CIA because of his service under former President George W. Iran should see that, great though its potential is, its future requires more, not less, integration in the world economy. An accommodation with the international community as represented in the International Atomic Energy Agency is essential for that. Europe, for its part, needs to rebut criticism that the West has been weak in the face of the clampdown in Iran. More strident or active support for the Iranian opposition would harm it, just as new U.S. sanctions now would do little more than allow Ahmadinejad to claim that the West is as hostile to Iran's people...

But it's not clear at this point what will happen, since the scope of the inquiry has been seriously limited. Still, Madigan may get some of what he wants - federal prosecutors are reportedly considering allowing the panel some access to the actual wiretapped tapes of Blagojevich allegedly plotting...
...logic of religious apologists, though circular, is correct in insisting that God’s existence cannot be disproved, either. Atheism, as opposed to agnosticism, therefore, requires faith as well. By scorning faith in God, Maher is simply scorning beliefs that he does not share but cannot rebut. Surely this sounds familiar...
