Food experts dispelled the notion that locally-grown food is necessarily more costly and explained the recent interest in sustainability at a panel discussion yesterday hosted by the Harvard Culinary Society, Real Food Harvard, and the Food Literacy Project. Panelist and History of Science professor Steven Shapin, who teaches a class on the “History of Dietetics, noted the “immense popularity of food porn,” attributing the increased interest in ingredient origins to the media’s recent focus on the culinary world. “Fewer people sit down...
...deleted it. Much as I detest Twitter, I have almost as little interest in basketball. But when I received the link again, I reluctantly clicked on it. The description in his bio said, “Very quotatious, I perform random acts of Shaqness” and his most recent Tweet assured readers, “u guys aren’t lil people, we r all from da same planet, twitteronia.” Huh? Most visits to Cambodia begin with the ancient temples of Angkor Wat or the Khmer Rouge's infamous killing fields just outside Phnom Penh. I'm not saying they're not worth seeing, but on our recent 10-day journey through Cambodia, we visited neither. It's an open hangar housing a real Antonov-24 turboprop plane, which makes up the club's VIP section. The airport opens onto Victory Beach, which during the day offers a small, calm, shallow shoreline without the hectic scene found on Serendipity...
...much energy Thais have for this permanent state of unrest is another question. Last year, the nation's all important tourist sector ground to a halt during the eight-day long protest at New Bangkok International Airport. A recent survey by the Suan Dusit polling agency shows that nearly 70% of Thais want Thaksin to stop inciting unrest and allow the government to work at solving the economic crisis. With the Thai economy set for a potential contraction of up to 4% this year, the Asian Development Bank said earlier this week that political infighting could hamper the effectiveness...
