...they are very slow about lining up. None of them seem to have any idea about blocking off the other side when their own half backs make a rush, and when a rusher does get the ball, he generally loses it, either when he is tackled, or by reckless passing. There is plenty of passing done, altogether too much in fact, for the chief idea of the man with the ball seems to be to throw the ball away when he is caught, in the vain hope of one of his own side getting it; but of good backing...

...when the course of the university seems to be backward. The prayer petition refused, Greek downtrodden, foot ball abolished,- at such a time, what a relief to find one body of men so alive to the interests of the hour ! Yet stay. Can it be that this unexpected, and reckless waste of money is prompted by the expectation of the numerous sheckels which will flow into the strong box of the association this morning, as the members line up to pay an additional fifty cents for their tickets over the price which was in vogue last year. ...Athletic Committee cannot stop them. If, in their solicitude for the size of students' purses, the Committee honestly desires to lessen the expenditures of the Boat Club, why not recommend to the corporation that the use of the boat house be granted rent free? At present, the reckless students pay the college $500 a year for it, almost as much as the expense of a coach. Here is a great opportunity for the committee to show, what is doubted by a few ungrateful students, that they really have the best interests of the students at heart. Here is a test...

...ears of the inhabitants of the aristocratic town of Salem were greeted with the melodious strains of the Harvard band, proudly marching through the streets as escort to the Republican legions of the Essex district. Several Harvard men led the band, adding greatly to the general effect by a reckless discharge of fireworks in all directions, now volleying in the policemen's backs, now in the muzzles of the band instruments, and now startling Salem's fair daughters by a reckless discharge at the windows. The band was warmly applauded along the route, and also met with a very...
