...GIVE THEM. For even those actors who never sinned on the stage before don't stand a chance with this cardboard American morality play, Dark of the Moon. Not a chance, "I reckon" (to quote the pet phrase of the playwrights) with all the "fers, plumbs and cottonwood-blooming times" and a script that should burn in the fires of hell. And while they wallow in this sty of Appalachia, adultery and brimstone (and anything else moral that you happen to think of), do not spurn them for their transgressions, for the performance was near as good what mortals might...

...students have most difficulty with the reading and reasoning involved in word problems. About 60% of the teen-agers knew that the area of a rectangle equals its length times its width, and that the sides of a square are equal. But less than half of them could reckon the area of a square when the length of only one side was labeled. Two-thirds of the 13-year-olds could calculate the "distance around" a pictured rectangle with two dimensions given; only a third could determine how much fencing was needed to go around a rectangular garden not pictured...

In it, the twisted murderer known as the "Yorkshire Ripper" vowed that he would soon add to his string of eleven brutal killings. Last week he kept his word...

...Polisario so long as its own troops are not involved and Libya continues to provide much of the rebels' financing. For its part, Morocco is clearly not willing to give up any of its annexed real estate peaceably. Besides his own irredentist impulse, Hassan also has to reckon with the nationalistic fervor of his subjects-which the King originally whipped up in 1975 with his dramatic "Green March," in which 350,000 Moroccans literally walked into the collapsing Spanish colony...

...floor, forming a circle and passing the pipe with an ambience of mysterious ritual. They toke and laugh and smile nervously as they apply their peripheral vision; some just roll back their eyes beneath closing eyelids and fall back on the floor with only the ceiling to reckon. Little Joe and his girlfriend preside over the ritual sitting on the bed, filling pipes and rolling joints and popping pills, wandering into the music and eventually into each other's affection. Somehow the room is filled with chatter, most of it superficial. People don't fall into each other's laps...
