...death of a man of science is a great loss at any time; that of Agassiz, just at the present, particularly so. Preferring to see for himself, rather than accept the statements of others, he spent much time in critical observation, and was preparing to record the results of his extensive researches for the benefit of the world. He felt this to be his solemn duty, and asserted the same recently in one of his lectures, and also remarked, that, although willing and ready to give information to any asking it, he yet desired that his time should...
...Yale Record of this week is a good number. Among other things it discusses the place of the next Regatta, approves of New London, and thinks that extortion would be the chief feature of a Regatta at Saratoga. It loses its temper in an attempt to "rough" the Magenta for venturing to say that in its last number it indulged "a wee bit in braggadocio," and makes one remark which may have been funny when it first appeared in Yale papers, though we have forgotten, and another which we do not repeat, because we are unwilling to believe that more...

For a real "jolly wow" give us a Yale merrymaking...

We are quite pleased to see the little sheet so loyal and true to its Alma Mater and the ability of her proud sons, and are only afraid its very patriotism has caused it to indulge a wee bit in braggadocio...
...last Record thinks Harvard is conceited about her foot-ball rules, calls our Nine the Bostons' "playthings," and thinks that Yale had better secure the services of Professor Goodwin when he returns from France. Leave of absence, not resignation, little Record...
