There is little to be said of the games on Saturday. Yale's victory was the result of no accident, but of clean superiority, and we can only be sorry that Harvard has at last been overtaken in the race for the present intercollegiate cup. With the record of victories in the past six years thus even, Harvard must take a fresh start next spring. Most of her team will return, and the excellent work of the men this year promises well for the year to come. If the future captain is as thoroughly equal to his position as captain...
...best time that the Cornell Henley crew has made on the lake course is 6.57. This is six seconds slower than the record time for the Henley course, which is 6.51. Last year the Oleander Club won the race in 7.12. Of course, the Henley race is against the current, and there time comparisons are not reliable; but the fact that the Cornell crew is able to row on still water this early in the season within six seconds of the record time is a very clear indication that it is a very fast crew, and will make things lively...
...year. Yale expects Richards to win two first prizes in these events, and it is not unlikely that he will do so, as he won them both two years ago and is now running in his old time form. Crumm of Iowa is a new man with a phenomenal record, and many who have followed his work carefully think that he will win. Patterson of Williams, Bucholtz of Pennsylvania, and Redpath of Harvard are all good sprinters and are sure to figure in the result...
...half mile will be a race worth going a long distance to see, and the record may be broken in this event. Kilpatrick of Union won last year, and has shown great improvement since. The chances are that he will beat Hollister of Harvard, but the latter ran a wonderfully fast race in the Harvard-Yale games and has almost as good a chance to win as Kilpatrick. Orton of Pennsylvania is likely to take third place...
...left this afternoon for New York, where it will compete in the annual intercollegiate games at the Berkeley Oval tomorrow. The team is in excellent condition. Richards, the sprinter, is in even better shape than last week at Cambridge and Captain Hickok is likely to make a world's record in the hammer throw. Yale expects to secure 40 points, which should win first place...
