...artwork than as an object that you try to figure out how to do something with it, how to manipulate it.”The installation is a multi-elemental piece that engages sight, sound, mind, and physical being. Computer and video screens flank a cluster of white, rectangular bars staggered by random height. Sounds sweep through the open space as the installation loops through three movements. The first sets a neutral and abstract tone; the second—which projects text from New York Times headlines onto the bars as processed voices recite news feeds into the space?...
...factory in Cincinnati, Ohio. Behr adopted the name Manischewitz, named his factory the B. Manischewitz Company and developed an entirely automated method of matzo production. In advertisements, Manischewitz boasted that "no human hand touches these matzos!" By 1920, he was the world's largest matzo producer - at 1.25 million rectangular, sheetlike matzos a day - but he always adhered to the original kosher rules. As Manischewitz's popularity grew, so did the general perception of matzo. Gone were the lumps and bumps of homemade mazo; machine-made mazo was uniform in size, shape, taste and texture. ...That said, it's not all pretense at Barvikha. The facilities comprise a series of rectangular glass buildings with striking wooden slats on the exterior. The clock’s face is marked by linear strokes radiating outwards from the center. The rectangular picture frame hangs freely in the middle of the room. A piece of prose excerpted from a text about the events of September 11, 2001 creates the illusion of three-dimensionality with the prismatic shape the words take. At a cursory glance, the piece is striking primarily in its aesthetic appeal...
...until his death. Stepping into the Grand Salon, visitors are met with a mind-bogglingly eclectic display of art that somehow achieves a visual harmony. An imposing Fernand Léger dominates the far wall with a Matisse nude tucked away nearby; on the other side of the broad rectangular room, where Renaissance objects of bronze and silver intermingle with sumptuous art-deco furniture, an elaborate cubist Picasso masterpiece - Instruments de musique sur un guéridon, 1914 - hangs above a Cézanne watercolor of a French landscape, which hangs over a sleek, black bookcase hosting a perfect little...
