Bishop Brooks was born in Boston in 1835, and was a graduate of the Boston Latin School, of Harvard College, and of the Episcopal Theological Seminary at Alexandria, Virginia. In 1859 he became rector of the Church of the Advent in Philadelphia, and in 1862 of the Church of the Holy Trinity, also in Philadelphia. He came to Boston in 1869 as rector of Trinity Church, and continued there until his death in 1893.
