...question game. Was that Swede really eaten by those two Italians? Would Dictator Mussolini snub and degrade General Nobile? What about Titina, the General's little, yapping fox terrier bitch? Why wasn't she eaten? Is bitch eating worse than cannibalism? Russia. Moscow and Leningrad saw redder than usual, last week, as the great Communist newspapers Pravda ("Truth") and Izvestia ("News'") flayed "these Fascist swine!" An editorial in Pravda-whose editor is Nikolai Bukharin, closest associate of Dictator Josef Stalin (see RUSSIA)-keynoted significantly thus: "Here in Russia we know the true meaning of the word comrade...
...Governor addressed now and then to ease his mind. Mrs. Emily Smith Warner (eldest daughter) and her husband were there, too. Also Walter Smith (youngest son), Mrs. Belle Moskowitz (chief publicist) and her husband; also secretaries, friends, newsgatherers. The Governor chewed long cigars, drank water frequently. The patriot, however, was found ignorant of the fact that Commonwealth was founded, with the endorsement of leading Arkansas politicians and others, including Senator Lynn J. Frazier of North Dakota, as a cooperative, "intellectually aristocratic" institution open to all men but specially designed (in cost) for workers, regardless of creed...
...Since Abie's Irish Rose stole his long-rumbling thunder, not much has been seen or heard of the author of Potash and Perlmutter. Somehow, the Jews presented in Y'Understand (eight short stories) seem modernized, less Semitic than their forerunners. Perhaps that is mere geography: "Blood Is Redder Than Water" (mistaken identity in a fight over women and a will) transpires at Rockaway Beach, L. I.; "Cousins of Convenience" (a comedy of clothes) hints at the annual hegira to Florida; "Never Begin with Lions" (cinema tribulations) is in Los Angeles. Abe and Mawruss appear at length, however, fond anachronisms...
