Harvard is often seen as the training ground for the future leaders of the country: a top echelon of alumni across a broad spectrum of society from Vice President Al Gore '69 to former Cambridge mayor Kenneth E. Reeves '72.
Richard Reeves, author of the 1993 study, President Kennedy: Profile of Power, has said this: "The final judgment of a leader of democracy [is] whether he or she brings out the best or the worst of the people. On that score, I rate JFK a great leader."
In a diverse, multicultural city like Cambridge, Councillor Kenneth E. Reeves '72 said, the government should recognize a diversity of "wonderful marriage" possibilities.
"We on this council should show that love does have meaning, that it has all the same meaning as everyone else's love," said Reeves, who is gay.
"Someone needs to be the public voice of conscience for the University," said Reeves. "My hope is that the University will find its moral compass and finds its way going forward instead of backwards."
