The referendum allows the people to veto any undesirable legislation. Our legislatures no longer represent the people but the trusts who have obtained great power. ...Harvard will defend the negative against Yale in New Lecture Hall, and will argue the affirmative against Princeton at Princeton. The Yale team will at the same time uphold the negative against Princeton at New Haven. The subject for all three debates will be, "Resolved, That the initiative and referendum should be generally adopted in American states."
