Jencks is an old hand at educational studies, surveys, and reformist ideas. As an undergraduate at Harvard he majored in English and wrote articles on higher education for the Crimson. His interest in educational reform led him to enter the Graduate School of Education, where he met David Riesman '31 Henry Ford II Professor of Social Sciences, who was just coming to Harvard.
