...result of our game with Brown on Wednesday last has materially changed the feeling of the college in regard to the chances of the final success of the nine. At the bat they did so much better than was expected, and exhibited such fine form in the field, that they inspired great hope of a victory in the game with Yale on Saturday. Their fielding throughout has been almost unexceptional, the great weakness being in their batting; but with such marked improvement as has just been shown, the prospect is very encouraging. We have been unfortunate in many ways...

...condition of their voices. Their indisposition was certainly an excuse for them personally. How the club can be called to account on a matter that was never brought before it, I do not see, especially since a quartette has never yet been a part of its organization. With regard to the duties of the Glee Club to the college, and those of the college toward the Glee Club, I must make a grave general charge against the college. Musically speaking it is at the lowest ebb of indifference. Not to speak of the neglect of the musical opportunities afforded...

...ensuing year as follows: E. Norton, '85, president; F. W. White, '85, secretary and treasurer; W. D. Smith, '84, captain and A. D. Claflin, '85, sub-captain. Messrs. Norton and Claflin were appointed a committee to confer with the bicycle representatives at the Polo Grounds Saturday, in regard to what entries should be made by the college and at the coming Springfield bicycle tournament...

...earnest or in fun, but evidently he was not acquainted with the subject concerning which he was writing. The cricket team and base-ball nine are suffering from the same trouble, namely, the want of a professional trainer, and are about on a par with each other in regard to number of victories and defeats. This season they have played two matches against the acknowledged strongest club in New England, coming out creditably in both. The cricket team is not pestering the college for subscriptions, and its members are doing their utmost to make the team a success...
