...relay team will be made up of forerunners, each man to cover the 220 distance. The teams will run against time and the first three teams will receive 5, 4, 1-2, and 4 points respectively. In the other events the first four places will count 5, 3, 2, and 1 in points and gold, silver, and bronze medals will be awarded those who win places. The team which scores the greatest number of points will receive the Harvard Cup which goes into the permanent possession of the team which first Wins it five times...

...mile relay race never has been included in the intercollegiate championships, but if I had an opportunity to choose an all-time one-mile relay team, picking the men on the basis of speed, experience, and reliability, I would choose the four men in this order: J. E. Meredith of Pennsylvania. Maxey W. Long of Columbia, Frank J. Shea of Pittsburgh and Charles D. Reidpath of Syracuse. All of these men have won I.C.A.A.A.A. titles, and to my way of thinking they would be from seven to ten yards faster than any combination of runners in the past 25 years...
