...runs an old camp-meeting story. And so, last week, stood matters for 22,000 Home Relief clients in New York City. WPA used to make and distribute false teeth. It stopped when it could not find enough technicians on its rolls to keep pace with the demand. Last week, after many an indigent had waited toothless for two years, the problem was solved by the city's Department of Public Welfare contracting with nine dental laboratories to manufacture some 35,000 plates, following X-rays, extractions and impressions made by WPA dental clinics...

...Saturday it was apparent that "Dear Alben" Barkley was preserved to his President. Despite C. I. O.'s endorsement, he lost a lot of miners' votes in eastern and southern counties but his home counties of western Kentucky backed him solidly and the northern counties, where Flood Relief and WPA benefits had been lavished most heavily, deserted Governor Chandler. Apparent reason: making a living is harder in Chicago, more first-raters rate relief. Last week's 12,000 visitors, sauntering down the nine cool galleries of the Institute's east wing, found scarcely a boondoggling brush stroke...

...work in any 24. Last week, pointing out that the Motor Carriers Act was designed for safety reasons, not for "economic or social ends," the ICC. clung to the 60-hr. week but specified that there be at least eight hours off duty in every 24 and immediate relief from duty after every ten hours. Effective date: October 1. ¶ Bought some $8,000,000 worth of men's and boys' clothing, first batch under the $10,000,000 kitty set aside by WPA simultaneously to lance the clotted clothing inventory and to aid the needy. Handled...
